2 held for moral policing in Kovai

Police said the complainant; a 20 year old girl had gone riding pillion in a bike with her boy friend and another youth to her home few days ago.

On seeing this, the accused persons Safiullah, 44 and Ibrahim, 44 both hailing from Karumbukadai area had visited the girl’s house and threatened her and mother for going with a boy from another community.

Earlier they also assaulted the two youths for taking the girl in their bike. Following a complaint by the girl, the Kuniamuthur police registered a case and arrested the duo on Wednesday.

Police booked them under various sections IPC 506 (2) for issuing death threats, 324 for causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons and few other relevant sections. Both the accused persons were remanded and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.

Meanwhile police have issued a strict warning against people involving in moral policing by taking up law in their hands.
