He said the programme, under the Tamil Nadu Vision 2023, is being implemented utilising Government of India grants under the “Housing for All” scheme.
Panneerselvam said as a state nodal agency, Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) has been implementing the “Housing for All (Urban)” utilising the following four components such as slum re-development using land as resource, credit linked subsidy scheme, affordable housing in partnership and beneficiary-led construction of individual houses.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the state level sanctioning and monitoring committee and Central sanctioning monitoring committee for “Housing for All” programme have so far approved construction of 4.57 lakh tenements, houses in cities, municipal towns and town Panchayats of Tamil Nadu at a total cost of Rs 18,422.75 crore.
“Out of this 1,37,414 individual houses are to be constructed in town panchayats at a cost of Rs 4,291.05 crore and 3,11,491 tenements and houses will be constructed by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board in Corporations, municipal towns and cities at a cost of Rs 13,330.53 crore,” Pannneerselvam said.
Stating that the government is under the process of selecting beneficiaries, he said the authorities are also taking the census of slums that are existing in the cities. The Deputy Chief Minister also informed the Assembly that the government had reconstructed more dilapidated tenements in Chennai and other districts at a cost of Rs 280 crore.
Earlier, DMK legislator Sekhar Babu claimed that the government has not identified especially payment dwellers, who should be the real beneficiaries of the housing schemes.
