Groundwater level alarming: Central team
A Central team out on a visit to the central region in the State pertaining to issues over water management, urged to look upon the immediate need of rain water harvesting methods to recharge the groundwater level in Tamil Nadu.

The team led by the advisor to the Union Environment and Forest Department, Yashveer Singh, which conducted a study on various aspects across the central region, including groundwater, inspecting under-construction infrastructure, raised concerns about rainwater harvesting as the groundwater level has been decreasing.
Stating that the Centre has introduced the Jalsakthi Abhiyan for water conservation, Yashveer asked the public to step up rain water harvesting in their houses. A Central team has been formed to monitor as many as 256 districts and 596 unions and a report would be submitted to the Centre after studying them, he said.
Stating that the groundwater level in Tiruchy has started to decrease, Yarshveer Singh urged the people to install rain water harvesting, and also asked officials to create awareness among the people. He also asked to desilt all the waterbodies before the monsoon rains.
Later, the team met officials in their respective district.The team also went on a field visit to rural pockets in the region and inspected those ongoing projects under water management schemes.
