Parties clash mars co-op poll in Kumbakonam

It is said, the election for the Chola Nadu Cooperative Thrift Society was scheduled earlier and the nominations filed by the DMK members were reportedly rejected by the officials to facilitate the AIADMK members to be elected unopposed. However, the DMK members approached the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court for the conduct of free and fair election.

Subsequently, the High Court directed the officials to conduct the election as per the schedule. Based on the direction the election was conducted on Friday with heavy police protection. However, right from the beginning, the AIADMK members were creating ruckus and even reportedly threatened the officials not to conduct the election. But the officials have cited the court direction and wanted to conduct the election without fail.

On information, the DMK members gathered there and attempted to counter the AIADMK members and this whipped up tension.  However, on information, the police rushed to the spot and pacified the cadre and removed both the cadre. Later, the members voted amid tight security.
