The protesting kin had initially refused to receive the body of the deceased from the hospital.
According to the police, Babu (29), a construction labourer, and his wife Prabha (22) engaged in frequent quarrels over family issues. They then rented out a house near the residence of Babu’s in-laws and stayed there over the last six months.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, Babu was found hanging. The Sivagiri police registered a case and sent the body for post mortem at Erode Government Hospital.
Babu’s immediate family members and relatives submitted a petition to the Erode police suspecting foul play in his death. They also gheraoed the Erode GH, alleging that Babu was assaulted to death by the family members of his in-laws.
On receiving information, a police team led by Perundurai DSP Raj Kumar rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters.
The police assured the protesting crowd that action will be taken based on the post mortem reports. However, the protesting crowd refused to relent and continued to argue with the police.
They later withdrew the protest and agreed to receive Babu’s body after the police warned of action.
