Ministers with their best replies stun Opposition
In a surprising note, state Ministers on Wednesday were at their best in giving replies to the members of Opposition parties for the questions posed at them.
Chennai
The pace was initially set by Law Minister CVe Shanmugham, who gave a fiery reply to DMK in hydrocarbon issue and the heat was picked up by other Ministers. The replies by Ministers were packed with data and facts about the state schemes which made DMK MLAs speechless and left them with no counters.
When DMK MLA Senguttuvan, spoke about Hogenakkal Integrated Drinking Water Scheme he said attributed it to the efforts of former CM and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi. Minister for Local Administration SP Velumani, in his reply, clarified that the scheme was drafted by former CM M G Ramachandran in 1986 and when late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, was in power for the first time in 1991, Rs 350 crore was allotted for the project. “DMK cannot claim credits for the Hogenakkal Drinking Water Project just like they do for other projects,” quipped Velumani.
Similarly, when Senguttuvan spoke about the farm loan waiver he said that Karunanidhi promised farm loan waiver and he implemented it. State government too should write-off all the loans obtained by the farmers. He also said that during the DMK government several thousand crores were given as farm loans to help farmers.
Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju replied that DMK in their election manifesto promised farm loan waiver and so it was their duty to implement their promises but AIADMK did not make any such false promises and questioned Senguttuvan how does he expect the government to do a work that was not assured by them. He also said that during the DMK regime, from 2006 to 2011, only about Rs 9,000 crore was given as farm loan but in the last eight years of AIADMK rule, more than Rs 42,000 crore has been given as farm loan to more than 82 lakh farmers across the state.
When Ambur MLA Vilvanathan complained that PDS products are not available after 20th of every month in his constituency, Food Minister Kamaraj countered him with latest supply statistics.
