“Wholeheartedly welcoming” the attempt of the CJI who has reportedly expressed interest in translating SC verdicts into some regional languages, Stalin said the move would be a milestone in administration of justice in the country which would help the plaintiff in understanding the gist of the verdict and arguments advanced by their defense counsels.

“It is very disappointing that Tamil does not feature in the list of languages into which the verdicts would be translated,” the DMK president opined, adding that there could be no second thought in Tamils benefitting immensely from the translation. “Doubts would arise among Tamil scholars in the country and abroad due to the SC avoiding the country’s oldest language which has an illustrious grammatical and literary history,” Stalin remarked, adding that the 7.5 crore Tamil people desire that the CJI should secure a special place in history by ensuring it.

Seconding Stalin, MDMK leader Vaiko demanded the SC to translate the court verdicts in Tamil. Vaiko, in his statement, said, “It is welcoming on the part of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, saying that the Court verdict should be translated in all the respective state languages and there is no doubt that this will result in better understanding of judgments, but the decision to translate only in five languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Odia and Assamese is shocking as Tamil was left out. Supreme Court should reconsider their decision to include Tamil in the list of languages to be translated.”

He also said that there are 22 official languages and all the languages should be treated equally.

Now, the incident of leaving Tamil has entrenched the doubt of Tamil people stronger that BJP is against Tamil language, said Vaiko.

In a tweet, PMK founder, Ramdoss said, “Supreme Court’s decision to release verdicts in regional languages is appreciable but at the same time it is disappointing to know that the verdict will be released only in five languages.” He also said that the court verdict should be released in world’s oldest language Tamil, and if there is any assistance required, Supreme Court can seek assistance from the state.
