    The general counselling for students seeking engineering seats in the State commenced on a brisk note on Wednesday.

    In round one, students from rank 1 to 9,872 having marks ranging from 200 to 178 attended the process.


    The Department of Technical Education (DOTE), which is conducting the counselling process this academic year after Anna University refused to do it, made elaborate arrangements at Government Polytechnic College Auditorium at Taramani in the city.


    A senior official said most of the students opted for Computer Science followed by Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses. “The first round of counselling will go till July 11 and final allotment of seats will be completed on July 13 for the first batch,” he said.


    Four rounds of counselling, which would end on July 28, would be conducted, he said and added that each round of counselling would be held for five days during which students could participate and inform their choice of courses and colleges.


    During the second round, students from rank 9,873 to rank 30,926 with marks ranging from 177.75 to 150, will participate. In the third round, applicants from rank 30,927 to rank 64,093 with marks ranging from 149.75 to 115, will get counselling.


    For the final round, candidates from rank 64,094 to rank 1,01,692 with marks ranging from 114.75 to 77.5 would attend the process.


    The official stated that initial payment made by candidates will be adjusted in the college tuition fee at the time of admission and 80% of the amount will be refunded to the candidates who did not join.
