    ‘Bid to usurp Pondy med seats with fake docus’

    Students Parents Welfare Association (SPWA) President Y Bala has raised doubts over issuance of fake residential certificates to enable candidates to join first year MBBS course in Jipmer under the Puducherry quota.

    In a release on Wednesday, he said there were 200 MBBS first year seats in Jipmer Puducherry and Karaikal of which 55 seats were being allotted for Puducherry students. There were allegations that students from other states after obtaining fake residential certificates had applied for MBBS course in Puducherry quota.


    Following this, the SPWA had submitted a memorandum to the government and a complaint was lodged with the police.


    Meanwhile, the selected candidates were called for counselling on June 26,27 and 28. Around 110 candidates failed to turn up for the process. Bala alleged that these candidates may have obtained fake certificates and failed to turn up under fear that they may be caught.


    He also said that details of the residential certificates issued to students were sought from the Revenue Department. Meanwhile, AIADMK legislator Vayyapuri Manikandan alleged irregularities in Jipmer admission and demanded an inquiry.


    He also sought ajudicial probe to ascertain as to why 110 candidates did not turn up for the counselling process.
