Vaiko set to return to Parliament after 15 yrs
MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday was unanimously elected as the party candidate to contest in the Rajya Sabha election in the seat offered by the DMK.

The decision to select Vaiko for Rajya Sabha was taken in the high level meeting held at the party headquarters, in Egmore. In the meeting, 11 resolutions were passed and the fifth resolution stated that in the election to Rajya Sabha to be held on July 18, Vaiko will contest on behalf of the MDMK and in another resolution DMK president MK Stalin was thanked for allotting a single Rajya Sabha seat to the MDMK.
Vaiko is set to return to Parliament after 15 years as he won in Lok Sabha elections in 1999 from Sivakasi constituency, where he served till 2004. Vaiko served as Rajya Sabha member thrice when he was part of the DMK, from 1978 till 1996. Then in 1998, he contested in Lok Sabha elections for the first time and won from Sivakasi constituency.
MDMK allied with DMK in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and DMK promised a Rajya Sabha seat to the MDMK. As six seats from Tamil Nadu are getting vacant on July 24, DMK and AIADMK can elect three members each.
As promised the DMK on Monday announced their decision to give a single seat to the MDMK.
