State moots placement officers training for engg teachers
In a bid to create more employment opportunities, state Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan on Tuesday announced that the government will take steps to conduct placement officers training programme for teachers of more than 500 engineering colleges with the participation of industries.

Replying to the debate on the grants for his department, the Minister said at present 585 engineering colleges were functioning under the Tamil Nadu State Council for Technical Education. “At the same time, a total of 520 polytechnic colleges are offering various courses in the state,” he added.
“It has been decided to conduct placement officers training to both engineering and polytechnic colleges teachers with the participation of experts in various industries,” he said.
Anbalagan said in additional to the placement programme, a comprehensive foreign technical training session will also be conducted for more than 100 students of government polytechnic colleges with aim to enhance the exposure of international knowledge.
The Minister said that regional level cluster-based research centres will also be established for facilitating the interface between the academia and the industry among cluster of private engineering colleges and polytechnic institutions.
Pointing out that engineering and polytechnic students must possess good English communication skills to express their ideas and knowledge and to get a placement in good organisations, Anbalagan said for the first time a training programme will be launched for enhancing the English teaching skills for teachers in engineering and polytechnic colleges.
“English teaching faculty have been trained on innovative pedagogical methods to make them as a resource person to train more than 2,000 English faculty in engineering and polytechnic colleges in the State,” he said.
The Minister said that the training programme will be initially taken up in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Villupuram where 50 resources persons will be benefitted.
“An exclusive Tamil Nadu State Council for Technical Education magazine will be published for engineering and polytechnic colleges from this academic year,” headded.
