    Krishnaswamy is new chief of Coast Guard

    Director General Krishnaswamy Natarajan took over as the 23rd Chief of Indian Coast Guard on June 30. After joining the service in 1984, Director General Krishnaswamy specialised in search and rescue operations and Maritime Safety and Port Operations at the US Coast Guard Reserve Training Centre in Virginia.

    Krishnaswamy Natarajan is a fifth batch officer of the Indian Coast Guard who holds a master degree in Defence & Strategic Studies from Madras University.


    In his career of 35 years, the flag officer has held various command and staff appointments, both afloat and ashore. He has commanded all classes of Indian Coast Guard ships and has also served as the Commander Coast Guard for Tamil Nadu. He served as the Commanding Officer ICGS Mandapam and as the first Officer-in-Charge of Coast Guard Training Centre in Kochi.


    He has headed the Staff Division of Policy & Plans at the Coast Guard Headquarters and has contributed in the overall growth of the Coast Guard by setting up additional 20 stations, 10 air establishment, two regional headquarters, two seaboard headquarters and contract for 120 ships and boats.
