Tripathy assumes charge as head of TN police force
Director General of Police JK Tripathy assumed charge as the new Head of the Police Force (HOPF) on Sunday afternoon after the present police chief DGP TK Rajendran demitted his office after 35 years of service.

The outgoing officer was given a send-off with a ceremonial parade at Rajarathinam Stadium on Sunday evening. Rajendran was posted as DGP on the night of June 30, 2017, on his superannuation day, by the present AIADMK government, for a term of 2 years. His name was figured in the gutka scam.
DGP Tripathy reached the office of Head of Police Force around 3.15 pm and shook hands with Rajendran, who was finishing the formalities to hand over the charge to the former.
Later Tripathy was given the chair and charge as the head of the force.
Tripathy, talking to reporters thanked Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for giving him the opportunity and said that his priorities will be maintenance of law and order and prevention of crime in the state.
When Rajendran left the office, he took the stairs to reach the portico and got into his car. As a customary gesture he was given a ‘police pulling’ fare well - senior police officers pulled his vehicle using the rope till the gate - and gave him a warm send off.Â
Later he was given a farewell with a ceremonial parade at the stadium. A good number of senior police officers took part in the event. Rajendran inspected the parade for the last time and then addressed the gathering.
Rajendran reminded his men and officers that primary duty of the police personnel is to serve people and protect them. He also advised the police personnel to treat the petitioners well and solve their problems.
Tripathy, speaking on the occasion said that he had seen Rajendran with the same vigour when he first met him as ASP in Kanniyakumari till this day.
City police Commissioner AK Viswanathan said that the outgoing DGP has left his stamp in all the wings he had served in
