Administrative burden in store for new Chief Secretary
Unlike his predecessors, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam will have administrative burden, but no political burden, said Secretariat sources.

“When former CS Girija Vaidyanathan took over there was political turmoil in the state. There were frequent raids in the houses and office of Ministers and Girija was appointed at the time when the Chief Secretary’s office was raided by the CBI,” sources said.
Sources also said that in the last two years the political situation has eased. “Though there will be no political pressure and liaising work for Chief Secretary, there will administrative burden unlike any former Chief Secretaries have faced,” said sources. “The state is facing severe pressure from the Opposition and now the Assembly session is in progress, there will questions on water shortage on a daily basis from the Opposition and for all the questions, the CS is in a position to prepare comprehensive reports for CM to reply in the Assembly,” said sources.
