Pudukai youth dies while taking selfie in front of train
A college student in Pudukkottai died on Saturday after he was hit by a train while reportedly attempting to take a selfie, while his friend sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment.

According to sources, 19-year-old K Manikandan, a resident of Machuvadi in Pudukkottai, was pursuing his second year in BSc at a private college in the district. On Friday evening, Manikandan along with his friend Mahendran (20), went to the railway bridge across Vellaru and stood there.
When the duo saw the Manamadurai- Mannargudi passenger train approaching, Manikandan reportedly attempted to take a selfie along with his friend.
However, the train hit the duo and Manikandan fell on the track and died, while his friend Mahendran is battling for life with severe injuries.
Passers-by who noticed the incident, passed on the information to the Karaikudi railway police who rushed to the spot and rescued Mahendran and sent him to the Pudukkottai medical college, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries. Meanwhile, Manikandan’s body was recovered and taken to the medical college for post mortem. The Karaikudi Railway police have registered a case and are investigating. The condition of Mahendran was still stated said to be critical.
