Currently, about 744 users of ICF have been registered in the e-office, promoted by RailTel, to bring transparency and efficiency in the day-to-day functioning of government establishments.
The e-office is a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the national e-governance programme of the Union government, which aims to usher in effective and transparent inter-government and intra-government transactions. Detailing the project, Puneet Chawla, chairman and managing director of RailTel said, “We signed an MoU with Indian Railways for the implementation of e-office over Indian Railways under Phase-I project for 50,000 users. We have already implemented the e-office system in South Central Railway, Tiruchy Division of Southern Railways besides the 7 CTIs and 2 PUs within a span of a mere 3.5 months.”
Implementation work is on fast track over other zonal headquarters and one division in each zone which will be completed by September. “Manual handling of files not only makes the process slow but consumes more energy on its workforce. To change the scenario and bring digital culture in Railways, the implementation of e-office has started. The aim of e-office implementation is to provide reliable, efficient, and effective way to handle office files and documents,” Chawla added.
