Open Kanniyakumari dams for crops, orders Palaniswami

According to a statement from Palaniswami, “Water from Pechiparai, Perunchani, Chittar dams I and II, all in Kanniyakumari district, will be released to irrigate lands dependent on Kodhaiyaru river. The water will be opened from Friday and will be supplied till February 28, next year.”

He also said that 850 cubic feet of water will be supplied in the period of eight months. More than 64,000 acres of farmland would be benefitted out of the water released from the dams. Palaniswami said, “I ask farmers to use water judiciously by adopting water management techniques and generate high yield.”
