Velumani pitches for early completion of water projects
Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply SP Velumani on Wednesday convened a meeting with Collectors of five districts, including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram at Tirunelveli to sort out the drinking water crisis.

The Minister reviewed the progress in schemes concerning drinking water supply and other development projects in these districts. He instructed officials concerned to ensure no delay in supplying drinking water to the households.
The progress in water supply schemes at Rs 31.32 crore for the benefit of people in Alangulam and Sankarankoil unions and Rs 46.55 crore for the benefit of Keezhapavur town panchayat and Pappakudi Kadayam and 50 MLD water scheme in Tirunelveli Corporation were reviewed.
The Minister told officials to expedite drinking water scheme of Rs 81 crore underway in Kovilpatti and drainage works in extended wards of Thoothukudi.
He also urged the need for completion of combined water supply scheme at Rs 470 crore underway in Arupukkottai, Sattur and Virudhunagar municipalities and underground drainage works in Rajapalayam at Rs 247 crore. The Minister asked officials to ensure on time completion of the drinking water scheme in Nagercoil.
He hoped for the early operation of desalination plant at Narippaiyur in Ramanathapuram at an estimated cost of Rs 675 crore.
