PDS outlet inaugurated 7 yrs ago in Tiruvallur still under lock and key
A Public Distribution System (PDS) retail outlet that was built and inaugurated seven years ago to benefit over 5,000 people living in the Pulicat area remains locked till date as the State government is yet to appoint staff members.

Over 1,500 families who were expected to benefit from this PDS outlet continue to travel a long distance to their old supplies shop to pick up monthly quota of rice, kerosene and others.
According to residents of Pulicat village, a total of 1,585 ration card holders were to be enrolled in the outlet located at Draupadi Amman Koil Street.
“Following our repeated requests, the government sanctioned a new PDS outlet and also built a concrete building that was inaugurated on April 15, 2012. But it is still under lock and key causing the building to decay, which is a gross wastage of public money,” said Maria Selvam, a local resident. “Since it is unused, it has turned into a haven for anti-social elements.”
Despite several complaints been made to the revenue officials of Tiruvallur district, the locals there claim that no action has been taken yet. They also demanded that the district administration immediately repair the shop and make it functional. When contacted, Tiruvallur Supplies Officer Sai Vardhini said she recently came to know of the situation. “We have asked for a report on why the shop has not been opened and will take efforts to make it functional soon,” Vardhini said.
