Thanga Tamilselvan to cross over to AIADMK?
The acrimony between AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran and his most trusted lieutenant Thanga Tamilselvan came out in open and highly placed AMMK sources confirmed to DT Next that the days of the party propaganda secretary are numbered as the Theni strongman is in touch with the AIADMK Ministers regarding defection.

Meanwhile, an audio clip going viral in political circles as lent credence to rumours that Thanga Tamilselvan is unhappy with the leadership of Dhinakaran and abused one of the personal assistants of AMMK leader Dhinakaran on Sunday night asking him to convey to his brother (Dhinakaran) to do ‘brave and genuine’ politics.
The one minute 11-second clip which allegedly sounded like Thanga Tamilselvan also threatens consequences to the AMMK from Madurai and Theni districts. “If I take ‘vishwaroop,’ you all will be destroyed, tell your brother (TTV). With such cheap politics, your TTV can never win,” said the audio.
According to AMMK insiders, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is keen on getting the Theni strongman back into the AIADMK as it would strengthen the party in southern districts and also keep the base camp of AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam under check. Two senior ministers are constantly in touch with the former MLA and have made an offer wooing the sulking AMMK functionary.
Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar had also openly invited Thanga Tamilselvan to return to the parent AIADMK to fight against the arch-rival DMK. Eyeing political opportunity, Aravakurichi MLA Senthil Balaji, who recently defected from AMMK to DMK is also trying his luck to get the former Andipati MLA into the DMK, AMMK sources said.
Party leader Dhinakaran in anticipation had also kick-started corrective measures to strengthen the party units in Theni and Madurai to prevent mass migration. AMMK leaders have also apprised the party cadre about the unconfirmed ouster of party deputy general secretary Thanga Tamilselvan and the ongoing selection process to head the district units in southern districts.
Thanga Tamilselvan who gave appointments to journalists and TV channels on Sunday remained elusive throughout the day and his mobile remained not reachable for comments.
When contacted, AMMK leader P Vettrivel about the rumours and the viral audio clips, he neither denied the rumours nor accepted it. “We are aware of certain internal issues and the party high command will soon take a decision in this regard,” Vettrivel quipped.
It may be noted that the sulking AMMK propaganda secretary has openly criticised the AMMK leadership for not getting adequate votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and 22 Assembly seat bypolls.
Thanga Tamilselvan, the former Andipatti MLA recently contested against OP Raveendranath Kumar, son of AIADMK leader Panneerselvam in the Theni Lok Sabha poll and secured more than one lakh votes contributing to the 8 per cent vote share of the AMMK.
