    A Salem farmer attempted suicide by trying to set himself and his family on fire at the Collectorate.

    One Pazhanisami, his wife Tamizhselvi, his son Pon Sankar and his daughter Soundarya went to the Collectorate on Monday. At the entrance the family suddenly tried to set themselves on fire. A police security stopped them and investigated.

    The farmer informed the police that a land owned by him in Malloor was encroached. He added, “I lodged a complaint regarding this in the Malloor police station. The police said that they will investigate and make them to return my land. However, the encroachers threatened to murder me when I asked them to leave. I want the police to take legal action and restore my land.”

    He also demanded the police for the safety of his family. The Malloor police took the family to the Police Station for further investigation.
