Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session will be held from June 28 to July 30, according to the decision taken in the official review committee meeting headed by Assembly head Dhanapal.

The budget for 2019-2020 was presented and passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on 8th February. As the Lok Sabha election approached, the assembly date was postponed indefinitely without a debate on the grant requests.

With the end of the Parliamentary election, a series of legislative sessions will begin on the 28th, with department-wide grant requests filed and approved for funding. The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami was held at Chennai headquarters today. Following the Cabinet meeting, the assembly session’s official review committee meeting headed by Dhanapal began.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam, Ministers, Deputy Leader of the Opposition party Duraimurugan, DMK Korada Chakrabani, Congress Assembly head Assembly Ramaswamy, Vijayadharani and IUML MLA Abubakar.

Discussions on duration of legislative sessions, days of discussion of the grant requests, the timing that the party members take to speak, the spotlight, and special attention issues took place.

The Opposition parties including DMK are preparing to raise various issues, including the drinking water issue during the 23-day session. DMK has given a letter to bring in a no-confidence motion on Speaker Dhanapal. So, it is expected that no-confidence motion against the speaker will be taken up first after the assembly is convened.
