    Ties with Dravidian major cordial: Alagiri

    Dismissing reports of a strain in the DMK-Congress ties, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K S Alagiri on Saturday said the relationship between the two parties were cordial.

    Addressing reporters at the city airport here, Alagiri said the victorious coalition, which nearly swept the recently-conducted Parliamentary polls in the State, would continue to make steady and good progress.


    Taking a dig at ruling AIADMK for not taking concrete steps to resolve the prevailing water crisis, Alagiri said the government should not solely rely on rains to supply water. He also criticised the ministers for taking part in special prayers to invoke the rain gods, stating that the government has failed in its duty to the people.


    Referring to the State government’s plea to the Opposition parties to not politicise the water crisis, Alagiri wondered how the Opposition could remain quiet on the public issue. “Though Kerala government was willing to provide water to TN, CM Palaniswami is not interested in it. He does not know the difficulties faced by common man as four tanker lorries supply water to his residence,” he said.


    Meanwhile, the TNCC president said the party has planned to organise a meeting on the upcoming local body elections with representatives from southern districts either in Madurai or Tirunelveli on June 14.


    “Key strategies on facing the local body polls and aligning with coalition parties would be discussed at the meeting,” he added
