‘Save 5000-year-old rock paintings near Gudiyattam’
Tamilvanan, a numismatist and philatelist, who is also the founder of ‘Friends of Vellore’, a Facebook page, has requested the State Archeology Department to initiate immediate steps to preserve the 5000-year-old rock paintings at Senrayanpalli village near Gudiyattam in the district.

Tamilvannan came across these paintings during a visit to the site. The ancient paintings were found in natural caves situated at the base of the 1,000-foot-tall Kozhi Kondai Malai (Cock Comb Hill in English), he said.
Talking to DT Next, Tamilvannan said, “The paintings portray scenes of a jallikattu clash, a warrior fighting a leopard and a man riding a bullock cart. Archaeologists confirmed that the paintings were more than 5000 years old. Now some mischievous locals are defacing it without knowing its value.” He added that Vellore and Velapadi areas are full of historical monuments that need to be maintained and preserved.
