Big Temple turns yoga venue as students present various asanas
In view of International Yoga day on Friday, around 500 students performed yoga at Brihadeeswara temple in Thanjavur district on Thursday.

The Tourism department of the Union government which has been organising a series of programmes to celebrate International Yoga Day, held an awareness programme at the Big Temple which is being venerated as one of the popular tourists spots in Tamil Nadu.
The programme commenced from June 16, in which the health benefits of yoga were discussed among the people. The experts also spoke on the effects of yoga which would help an individual lead a healthy life.
Although as part of the International Yoga Day celebrations, yoga performances were being held each day, around 500 students from various educational institutions in Thanjavur on Thursday took part in the practice of yoga.
The practise commenced around 7 am and the students performed almost all positions of yoga. Central Tourism department assistant director Paswan, Tourist officer Nandakumar, Thanjavur Medical College dean Dr Kumudha Lingaraj and others participated in the event.
Meanwhile, the students of KAPV Medical College in Tiruchy also organised an event on yoga in which around 500 students took part in the event. Likewise, several schools in Tiruchy, Pudukkottai, Perambalur also performed yoga in view of International Yoga Day.
