Principal opposition party, the DMK has called for a state-wide stir on June 22 condemning the slackness of the AIADMK regime and maladministration of Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani.
Chennai
The party headquarters on Wednesday announced that the stir would be organised to urge the ruling AIADMK to take constructive steps on war footing to end the water crisis in the State.
“Instead of taking constructive steps to overcome the acute water shortage, the government led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is engaged in making bold claims to the media. This despite the Madras High Court questioning the administration about the measures taken to resolve drinking water problem,” the statement said. Accusing the CM of directly warning the media not to blow the ‘sporadic protests’ out of proportion, the statement said the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues were issuing statements insulting the people, who are protesting with empty pots in an non-violent manner.
The statement also charged the ruling AIADMK with acting irresponsibly during the current crisis, which has created a fear in the minds of people about their future. The DMK had earlier demanded the resignation of Velumani for failing to resolve the water crisis.

A communique from the party student’s wing secretary CVMP Ezhilarasan advised the party district office bearers to complete the formalities like obtaining police permission for the same and participate in the protest.
