The Department of Technical Education (DoTE), which is conducting students’ admission process and counselling this year, said the announcement was postponed as officials have to verify the genuineness of the certificate that was given by the students, which is a long process.

As per the original schedule, the rank list was proposed to be published on June 17 (Monday). Now, the announcement will be made on June 20 (Thursday). A senior official from the DoTE on Sunday said that the last date for certificate verification was also extended by one day (till June 13) for the benefit of the students especially for those living in the rural areas. The rank list will be made available for four days for candidates to clarify their doubts through Students Facilitation Centres, which was established in all districts. In Chennai alone, five students’ facilitation centres were set up where experts from DoTE were appointed. With the postponement of rank list announcement, the counselling schedule for reservation category, which is expected to start on June 20, is likely to be re-scheduled.

However, a DoTE official pointed out that counselling for students from general category will be held as per schedule -- from July 3 to 28. Soon after the counseling, which will be held in multiple rounds, the tentative allocation of seats will be announced to the students, he said.

“The final allocation of admissions to the engineering seats will be announced once students express their choice of college”, he added. The official said that of the 1.33 lakh applications, only 1.06 lakh candidates appeared for certificate verification. “Of those who appeared for certificate verification, about 30 per cent of the students might not come for counseling,” he concluded.
