In his statement, Vaiko said, “The admission process was not transparent. Spot admission was carried out against the norms of the university. Many students were not even informed about the selection process and are still expecting a call from the university.”

According to Vaiko, the university offers four types of Postgraduate (PG) courses. While the first is a national level course, the second and third are for local students based on entrance test and marks obtained in their undergraduate (UG) courses. The fourth is a five-year integrated course, for which the admission is based on the marks obtained in Class 12 exams. The State government’s reservation policy is followed for the fourth course.

The entrance exam for the first two types of courses was conducted in March, but the results were not announced. However, the call letter for counselling, which was held on May 13, was sent only after May 10, he said.

“Many did not receive the letter on time. As a result, they could not attend the counselling process. Vacant seats were filled based on spot admission. Spot admission is illegal as there was no such provision when the admission process was announced,” said Vaiko.

Similarly, the rank list for the other two types of PG courses was not released. Instead, seats were again filled through spot admission. Unaware of this, many students are still waiting for a call from the university,” he said.

“The entire admission processis flawed. Hence, the process should be cancelled, and action shouldbe taken on the university authorities responsible for this situation,” Vaiko demanded.
