According to sources, V Prasanth, a construction worker from Manalur in Thanjavur, had an affair with a Class 12 girl from the nearby area and they continued to keep in touch over the phone for a long time.
Meanwhile, the minor girl went missing since June 8, and the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the Ayyampettai police in which they stated that she was kidnapped by Prasanth. The police registered a case and a search was on to trace the girl.
Against this backdrop, in the early hours of Wednesday, passersby at Vettaru banks in Panaveli village noticed the body of a youth with multiple injuries across-including on the head-and they passed on the information to VAO Shanmugavel who then lodged a complaint with the police. Based on this, SP Maheswaran, DSP Periannan and others rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. They retrieved Prasanth's body and sent it to the Thanajvur medical college hospital.
Initial investigation revealed that Prasanth had kidnapped the minor girl and they got married in a temple. Prasanth’s parents suspected it was a murder under the direction of the girl’s parents. The Nadukaviri police have registered a case.
