In a statement, the RK Nagar legislator alleged that the state has passed orders reducing the annual allocation of funds to private schools providing admissions to students under RTE. The objective of the RTE Act is to ensure that the students of poor community have access to education even in private institutions. Under the Act, the private schools should allot 25 per cent of the seats to local children and the fees will be subsidised using the state government funds. But, it is learnt that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami-led government has reduced the allocation drastically affecting the current practice.

For instance, a first standard student was earlier provided Rs 25,385 as the annual fees, but now with the revised government order the sanction has been reduced to Rs 11,719, Dhinakaran said.

The rebel leader also pointed out that the government has failed to understand the basic demand of the poor families depending on quality education. Will this move not affect the students pursing their education under RTE Act? wondered Dhinakaran.

The statement also urged the CM to understand the plight of poor parents utilising the RTE Act to provide education for their students.

Fees structures has been constantly increased by the private schools and RTE is certainly a respite for several students coming from rural background.

If the fund allocations are reduced it will certainly affect the poor students, AMMK party sources said justifying the statement of Dhinakaran.
