Ramadoss to govt: Probe who instigated Ilavarasan to kill self
PMK founder S Ramadoss on Sunday demanded the government to carry out investigations on persons who instigated Dalit youth Ilavarasan to commit suicide back in 2013.
Chennai
In a statement, Ramadoss said, “Singaravelu Commission which investigated the death of Ilavarasan confirmed that it was a suicide and there was no suspicion in the death. Now it is the duty of the governmentto investigate who instigated Ilavarasan tocommit suicide.”
Ilavarasan, a Dalit youth from Dharmapuri, who married a girl from intermediate caste was found dead on a railway track in July, 2013. The incident created widespread controversy and the PMK was blamed for being behind the death of Ilavarasan.
Though police investigation was carried out, state government appointed Singaravelu Commission to investigate the death. In the report that was recently released it was said that Ilavarasan committed suicide. It was a huge sigh of relief for the PMK as the party was projected as murderers by opposition parties, including the DMK.
Ramadoss on Sunday lambasted the DMK and the Left parties for politicising the issue and questioned them for their criticism. “Will the Opposition parties and fake revolutionaries seek apology for unnecessarily blaming the PMK for the death of Ilavarasan,” questioned Ramadoss.
He also said that Ilavarasan had ideas of committing suicide earlier and had once cut his wrist in Chennai. “Even on the day of committing suicide he was drunk and had informed his friends and family members that he is going to commit suicide. One of the relatives had even asked him to drop the idea of committing suicide and asked him to return home but all the information was not revealed in the police investigation and the Singaravelu Commission rightly brought out the facts,” said Ramadoss.
