Now, only online application for LT industrial power
As part of measures to ensure ease of doing business, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco) has made it mandatory for the industrial consumers seeking for the new low-tension service connection to apply only through online from July 1.

“In this process, the applicant has to upload the application and documents as per the provisions in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Distribution Codes and no hardcopies shall be insisted from the applicant,” Tangedco said.
The power utility had started accepting the application for new service connection under the low-tension category except for hut and agriculture services since August 2016. However, the consumers were given the option of filing the application manually as well. The memo signed by the Tangedco’s distribution director noted that the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Government of India, has recommended implementing a system that allows online application submission, payment and tracking of application status without the need for a physical touch point in obtaining new electricityconnection.
“To implement the above recommendation and to have easy access to the intending industrial applicants by eliminating physical touch point in the document submission for availing new service connection, the online application filing of new service connection in respect of LT Industrial applications shall be mandatory with effect from July 1, 2019,” the memo said. The distribution director has directed all chief engineers of the distribution wing, regions and superintending engineers of the electricity distribution circles to instruct officials under their jurisdiction up to the level of section officers to receive and process the LT Industrial applications only through online.
“If any applicant applies in person for the service connection, they shall be guided properly for applying the application through online only. In this regard, a nodal officer may be nominated to monitor and confirm that the LT industrial applications have been applied through online only,” the director said.
A senior Tangedco official said that the filing of the application through online alone would help process it swiftly. “If there is any delay, the senior officials will be able to monitor it,” the official said.
