CM waits for DMK MP at flyover inaugural
Tension prevailed for a while at the flyover inauguration event between AIADMK and DMK workers on Friday. The event saw the participation of DMK workers in large numbers. But, in a praiseworthy gesture, the Chief Minister waited for about ten minutes for DMK MP SR Parthiban to arrive for the inaugural event.

On coming to know that the MP was not present, the Chief Minister asked the officials to invite him and waited till he turned up for the function.
The flyover, stretching for about 7.8 km is the longest in Tamil Nadu. However, only 2.5 km stretch between AVR Roundana till Ramakrishna junction has got over, while the construction of the remaining stretch is underway in a fast pace. The project is to be executed at a cost estimate of Rs 450.77 crores.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has initiated several other flyover projects to make Salem free from traffic congestions. He also said that a DPR has been prepared for a bus port in 60 acres.
Even as the CM was delivering his speech, the DMK workers raised slogans praising their leaders M Karunanidhi and MK Stalin. Countering them, the AIADMK cadres shouted in praise of J Jayalalithaa and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. Police then had a tough time pacifying the two warring party workers.
Later, DMK MP SR Parthiban said to reporters that he was not invited officially and was asked to come over phone. “I thought of raising issues concerning my constituency by participating in the Chief Minister’s programme, however I was denied an opportunity to speak,” he said.
Kovai MP, MLA held for protesting delay in rail over-bridge construction
Around 475 persons, including Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan and DMK MLA N Karthik were arrested for holding a massive demonstration demanding speedy completion of the SIHS Colony railway over bridge on Friday.
The rail over bridge works at SIHS Colony began during the DMK rule in 2010 and Rs 23 crore was sanctioned for it. “However, the AIADMK government, which came to power in 2011, did not take up the works just because it was a project brought out by the DMK. In all these years, only 70 per cent of works have got over. While the state and Union governments were bent upon implementing anti-people projects like hydrocarbon and expressway works, it has ignored such useful projects,” said Coimbatore MP Natarajan.
The protesters claimed that while new flyover works are underway on Tiruchy Road and Mettupalayam Road, the government is refusing to complete the SIHS Colony flyover mainly because it was conceived during the DMK period.
Due to prolonged delay in completion of the bridge works in SIHS Colony, residents from areas such as SIHS Colony, Singanallur, Neelikonampalayam and Netaji Nagar tend to face severe traffic snarls.
The DMK and its alliance party workers threatened to intensify their protest, if the government still fails to speed up works of this pending flyover.
Around 475 persons, including the MP and MLA, were arrested for the protest held despite police denying permission for the same.
