According to sources, Nagarathinam (65), a mason, and his wife Veerammal (55), residents of Muthupettai, usually slept in the veranda of their house.
On Wednesday wee hours, even as there was heavy rain, Veerammal went outside to attend to nature’s call. She was electrocuted after stepping on a live wire that had fallen outside their house. On hearing her screams, Nagarathinam ran to her rescue but he too was electrocuted.
On receiving information, the Tangedco officials stopped the power supply. The Muthupettai police rushed to the spot, retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Tiruthuraipoondi GH for post-mortem.
