Left without water for kuruvai cultivation, farmers have warned that they would besiege the residence of the Chief Minister if the State government failed to get the due share of Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu.
The farmers led by P Viswanathan, state president of Tank and River Ayacutdars Welfare Association who assembled in the collectorate staged a protest demanding water for Kuruvai cultivation. They claimed that the kuruvai cultivation has been a failure for the past several seasons and so in order to ensure cultivation at least this season, the state government should initiate steps to release water for delta farmers.
They said that the AIADMK MPs took no step to get the due share of water for Tamil Nadu during the previous tenure. They lost the elections as the people had lost the faith on them.
Since the AIADMK MPs could not help the Tamil Nadu farmers, they, out of frustration worked against them and campaigned for the victory of DMK led alliance which secured them 38 seats. “Thus these DMK led alliance MPs from Tamil Nadu should raise the issue in the parliament during the session which would commence from June 6”, Viswanthan said.
The farmers also demanded the state government to take steps to get the due share of the Cauvery water, failing which they would besiege the Chief Minister’s house.
