Bus crew clash with cop, disperse after talks
Government bus services to various destinations were affected for more than an hour following an altercation between a conductor and a police constable in mufti at a bus stand here on Sunday night.
Tiruvannamalai
According to police, Vadivazhagan (43), a conductor, was issuing tickets in the government bus bound for Chennai. When the conductor asked constable Ragothaman (29) of Tirukoilur, who was seated in plainclothes in the bus, to buy a ticket, the latter said that he was a constable and hence he had a pass to travel in the government buses.
However, Vadivazhagan again insisted Ragothaman to buy a ticket and informed him that the bus was a conductor-less bus so all the tickets would be issued before the vehicle depart. When Ragothaman once again refused to buy the ticket, soon an altercation ensued and descended into fist fights.
Based on information, immediately nearby bus crews intervened and thrashed Ragothaman before handing him over to the local police outpost. The bus crew also resorted to a flash strike and refused to take out their vehicles unless police initiated action against Ragothaman.
Finally, Tiruvannamalai east police personnel rushed tothe spot and held talks with the crews in strike and assured them that action would be taken against the cop. Convinced with the promise, the crews dispersed and went back to work around 9.30 pm.
