The CPI and CPM have condemned the Central government over its proposal to implement the three-language formula.

CPI state secretary R Mutharasan said, “Though the country has many linguistic states, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru tried to impose Hindi leading to the anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu. Later, Nehru accepted the two-language formula for Tamil Nadu. If Hindi was imposed once again in Tamil Nadu, protests like the one witnessed in 1965 would be held again.”
In a statement, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said, “The BJP-led Central government has released the new draft education policy immediately after coming back to power. This move has created doubts among the people as the previous BJP government had tried to saffronise education and attempted to usurp the State powers in the education sector.”
