Cong MPs from TN criticised for not visiting Rajiv memorial
Visiting the memorial of the late party icons to either seek blessings or for ‘meditation’ is one of the characteristic features of contemporary politics. However, a majority of the 8 Congress Lok Sabha MPs, elected from Tamil Nadu, have drawn flak from cadre for not visiting the memorial of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi near here following their resounding victory.

The MPs who had meticulously planned their trip to the national capital for a photo opportunity with the incumbent party chief Rahul Gandhi and his predecessor Sonia Gandhi have been criticised for giving Rajiv memorial a miss.
Except for one, Chellakumar (Krishnagiri), none of the other elected TN Congress MPs paid homage at the memorial.
Upon reaching the spot with his supporters on Friday, Chellakumar was swarmed by cadre who sought to know why his Parliamentary colleagues had failed to visit the memorial.
Furthermore, the Krishnagiri MP had to answer if the other MPs had forgotten the former PM, who was brought up by rival BJP during the election campaign.
Caught unawares by the angry cadre, Chellakumar had satisfied them by assuring that they might visit the memorial after assuming office.
The state Congress leadership and the MPs would have to answer their cadre once they return to Sathyamoorthy Bhavan (TNCC headquarters) from the national capital. Having said, the Congress MPs have only their ally DMK to blame. Thanks to DMK president M K Stalin who had paraded his MPs and MLAs at Periyar, Anna and Karunanidhi memorials immediately after the sweeping victory in the just concluded Parliamentary and Assembly bypoll elections.
