Kelavarapalli dam receives 'sewage water' from Karnataka
Inflow into the Kelavarapalli dam in Krishnagiri district surged following heavy rains in its catchment areas in Karnataka.

The dam has almost reached its brim due to heavy inflow over the last few days. As on Friday, the dam’s storage stood at 41.98 feet as against is full reservoir level of 44.28 feet. The inflow into the dam was at 720 cusecs.
Considering the safety of the structure, the entire water flowing into the dam has been released resulting in flooding in Thenpennar river. The district administration has appealed to people living on the banks of the river not to venture into the gushing waters. The water released from Kelavarapalli dam flows into the KRP Dam.
Water released from the dam benefits around 8,000 acres of farm land including the 5,918 acres that the left canal covers and 2,082 acres which the right canal covers.
Meanwhile, farmers rued that untreated sewage is mixed with the water flowing into Kelavarapalli dam. The water comes blackish and is unfit for even agricultural purpose.
The farmers even complained that the sewage water has spoilt their crops and sought the state government to take up the issue with the neighbouring state.
