The new initiative by the state government titled Educational Management Information System (EMIS) will provide every bit of information about all schools, including private and government institutions.
Stating that a GIS database with ‘tagging’ information related to schools will also be maintained, a senior Directorate of School Education official told DT Next, “Other info such as availability of infrastructure, strength of students and so on are being fed into the database to improve decision-making. All government, private schools and more than one lakh habitations across TN have been mapped on GIS data.”
He said customised colours and shapes have been used to identify different management and categories of schools. Further, details regarding fee structure of all schools will be available on EMIS, adding, it can be accessed by officials, school management, teachers, students and public. “They just need to register on EMIS and look for the information they need,” he said.
“All activities, such as applying for school recognition, getting government funds, request for appointing teachers, augmenting school infrastructure development, improving students’ amenities in the school premises will be done only through EMIS from the coming academic year. Along with this, information on admissions under Right to Education Act can also be found here,” he said.
The official said that EMIS would enable stakeholders and officials take policy decisions. “This will make way for easy availability for data analytics and data mining,” he said.
He also said that EMIS is being synchronized with Unified District Information on School Education (UDISE) database, maintained by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), for finalising the annual work plan for TN.
