CBI searches house of Pollachi sex scandal accused
The CBI sleuths on Monday searched the house of one of the accused persons in the Pollachi sex scandal case.
Coimbatore
A team of CBI sleuths entered the house of Sabarirajan, who was part of the gang which exploited several young women, around 3.15 pm. They left the house located at Jothi Nagar around 3.50pm.Â
The Pollachi rural police have arrested five persons, namely Tirunavukarasu, Sabarirajan, Sathish, Vasantha Kumar and Manivannan, in connection with the case. They had allegedly sexually exploited the girls, video graphed the act and extorted money from the victims. Five others, including ‘Bar’ Nagaraj, an AIADMK local functionary, were arrested for assaulting the brother of the victim.Â
The Pollachi sex scandal turned out to be a key poll issue during the Lok Sabha campaign, with Opposition parties demanding a thorough and unbiased probe into the case. The CBI had taken over the case from CB-CID police in April.Â
During the first round of inquiry, the CBI summoned women who were sexually exploited by the gang and took their statements. With the agency speeding up the investigation process, more persons are likely to be arrested in the coming days, sources said.Â
