In a bid to prevent any untoward incidents, security has been beefed up across the Assembly segment. According to district election officials, there are a total of 2,05,273 voters, including 1,06,219 females, 2 transgenders and 24 service voters. As many as 250 polling booths have been set up at 173 polling stations in 22 zones.

District election officer and collector T Anbalagan said additional security has been provided at 29 booths, which have been identified as sensitive.

“These booths would have CCTV cameras and the entire election proceedings would be video-recorded. Sensing tension, three companies of paramilitary force comprising 192 security personnel have been deployed on security duty along with 1,622 police personnel and 500 home guard personnel,” he said.

“The control room established at the district collectorate has received 60 complaints till now, while the control room at Aravakuruchi taluk office received 45 complaints. Action has been initiated in all the complaints,” Anbalagan said, adding that seven persons were booked.

Earlier, Anbalagan along with Returning Officer (RO) Meenakshi reviewed the poll arrangements at the Aravakurichi taluk office and inspected the dispatch of EVMs and other polling items to the respective polling booths.
