    Bengaluru woman held in Namakkal baby sale racket

    With CB-CID interrogation into the Namakkal child trafficking case getting more intense, more skeletons seem to be tumbling out of the closet. Probe has revealed their business had spread beyond the State to Bengaluru and Kerala. On Friday, the police secured a woman agent in Bangalore and 10 others.

    Sources alleged that around 260 children among the total 4,300 born in the past four years in the district have gone missing and police have intensified search for the missing kids.

    Nine people, including the key accused Amutha alais Amuthavalli, a retired government nursing assistant, her husband Ravichandran and the ambulance driver Murugesan were arrested since the CB-CID slueths took up the case for investigation.

    The accused reportedly confessed that their ‘trade’ had spread beyond Tamil Nadu and revealed the involvement of a woman agent from Bangalore through whom the babies were ‘sold’ in Karnataka and Kerala. She was identified as Rekha (40).

    Subsequently, a team of CB-CID sleuths led by DSP Krishnan and Inspector Brindha rushed to Bangalore on Friday and secured Rekha and brought her back to Namakkal for further investigation.

    After thorough interrogation, Rekha was produced before the Namakkal Judicial Magistrate Court II and Magistrate Jayanthi sent her to judicial custody till May 31. Sources said, with Rekha’s arrest, more information could be sourced regarding the number of people involved in the racket. Police have sought Rekha’s custody for further interrogation.
