VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sathyabrata Sahoo and demanded him to order re-polling in Ponparappi. He gave a petition asking him to take action on his written complaint.

Addressing reporters, after meeting the CEO, Thirumavalavan said, “The CEO’s statement that there was no written complaint about the Ponparappi incident was shocking and so I came in person to submit a written petition seeking action on my demands.”

Ponparappi witnessed violence, on the day of Lok Sabha elections, on April 18, where pots, the symbol of VCK leader Thirumavalavan, were broken in front of polling stations and there was violence. VCK cadre alleged that Dalits of Ponparappi village were prevented from voting and demanded re-polling in the village.

A petition was filed in the Madras High Court and the High Court directed the VCK to approach the Election Commission. Thirumavalavan said that based on the suggestion of High Court to conduct re-polling in Ponparappi village, the EC should consider it. He further said that the CEO had assured him that he will inform the EC officials in New Delhi and will get their direction.
