With many of its affiliated colleges recording poor performance in the recently-held semester examinations, Anna University on Friday assured of an improvement in performance through the implementation of measures, including the formation of a monitoring committee.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function here, Anna University Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa assured that all the activities of its affiliated colleges will be monitored thoroughly by a committee, not only to improve academic results but also to enhance infrastructure facilities of the institutions in the future. The vice chancellor also pointed out that students too have the responsibility to study well and improve their performance.
The vice-chancellor also stated that many courses in the university’s affiliated colleges have been withdrawn owing to poor infrastructure facilities. To a query pertaining to this, Surappa said the action taken against such colleges were not published owing to the possibility of issues cropping up.
With the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) taking up the responsibility of conducting counselling for students seeking engineering seats this year following the Anna university V-C’s refusal, Surappa said that the government is co-operating in all activities of the institution. "We will also fully co-operate with them", he added.
Surappa, who participated in the ‘Genesis Day’ celebrations marking 225 years of the College of Engineering (CEG), said that the university will ensure there would be continued students' and faculty development activities here. CEG situated at Guindy in the city, is the flagship college that spearheads Anna University.
One of the many achievements brought about by the diligence of CEG’s research body is the launch of the indigenously built micro-satellite, ANUSAT, which is the first such space body reportedly to be built by an Indian university. Under the aegis of ISRO, students and faculty at the college worked tobuild, launch and operate the satellite.
