Vaiko bashes poll panel over curtailment of WB campaign
Condemning the recent violence in West Bengal, MDMK leader Vaiko on Thursday bashed the Election Commission (EC) by calling it a puppet of the BJP at the Centre.

Vaiko, in a statement, said, “The EC should have taken steps to control violence in West Bengal, but instead of controlling the violence, it has favoured the BJP by advancing the closing of election campaign after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, completed their rallies.”
Recently, when Modi and Amit Shah visited Kolkata, BJP goons entered a college there and destroyed the statue of social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Following that there was violence throughout the state and the EC directed all the political parties to end their campaign by Thursday evening.
Vaiko said that the last and seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections is scheduled on May 19 and the campaign should end on Friday evening but after Modi and Amit Shah ended their campaign the EC asked the parties to end theirs. “By directing the political parties to end their campaign a day before the schedule, EC has favoured BJP and is acting like a puppet to the party at the Centre,” he charged.
He also said that in the past five years BJP has been planning to demolish Trinamool Congress and the violence that happened recently were planned by the BJP to disturb law and order situation in the state. Though TMC leader Mamata Banerjee had been repeatedly registering complaints against the BJP leaders, the EC has not taken any action but instead they have curtailed election campaign of other parties, added Vaiko.
