Cong seeks removal of ‘outside’ EVMs in Theni, counting of VVPAT
The state Congress party has petitioned Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo seeking removal of all the 100 electronic voting machines brought to Theni Parliamentary constituency from Coimbatore and Tiruvallur. The Congress party has also asked the CEO to order VVPAT counting in re-poll bound booths in Theni.

A representation to this effect was made by Chairman of the media wing of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) A Gopanna on Thursday with Sahoo. Recalling the petitions his party and ally DMK had made with the CEO earlier, especially about the “illegal arrival of 50 EVMs to Theni from Coimbatore for replacing the same with existing polling machines used in April 18 elections,” Gopanna submitted that, “To our shock and surprise we came to know that another 50 EVMs were brought to Theni on May 15 by EC officials with the sole aim of replacing the already used EVMs with illegal intention of using the same in favour of the AIADMK candidate.”
“RO of Theni seems to be acting as AIADMK candidate’s election agent and abusing his official powers to snatch victory from Congress candidate,” the Congress petition alleged, requesting the CEO to immediately order removal of all 100 voting machines brought to Theni from Coimbatore and Tiruvallur. He requested the Commission to order VVPAT counting in all booths which are going for repolling on May 19.
