    Builder held for cheating woman docs via matrimony sites

    The ‘romantic and extortion run’ of a married civil engineer, who was posing himself as a ‘doctor’ on matrimonial websites came to an end after the Tiruchy police arrested the 34-year-old fraudster on Thursday.

    The accused, Chakravarthi, proprietor of Chakravarthi Builders and Promoters, had allegedly cheated and sexually abused women doctors across the state by posing as a doctor practising in the UK through different online matrimonial platforms with different names promising to marry them. The accused was arrested following a court direction based on a case filed a victim.


    According to sources, Chakravarthi, who is a father of a girl, without declaring marital status had advertised in several matrimonial sites seeking brides. The accused is a civil engineer from Bharathi Nagar in Tiruvannamalai district. He had uploaded his profile with tamilmatrimoni.com, a popular matrimonial service, seeking a bride. With multiple entries and different names like Vijayakumar, Girija Saravanan, Ajay and Vijay Chakravarthi, the engineer had claimed himself to be a doctor working in the UK.


    In one of the instances, Chakravarthi had approached a woman doctor from Tiruchy through the matrimonial website. It is said that the site had given 91 per cent for the completeness of his profile. Later, the fraudster after promising to marry the doctor had received Rs 20 lakh and had also sexually abused her.


    After receiving the money, Chakravarthi stopped all kinds of contact. The doctor then lodged a complaint with the Lalgudi All Women Police. After registering a case, police launched a search for the ‘UK doctor.’ As the police continued to delay the arrest of the culprit, the doctor approached the Madurai HC bench seeking a direction to the cops to arrest the accused and take action against the tamilmatrimoni.com.


    When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, the court direct the police to arrest the accused and initiate action against the matrimonial portal. As directed by court, the police arrested Chakravarthi from Tiruvannamalai.
