After inspecting the EVMs, the Collector said these control units and VVPATs were taken from Tiruvallur. The re-polling was ordered in two polling stations at Vadugapatti and Balasamudram. All these control units and VVPATs would not be required for the re-polling, but would be kept adequately as reserve so as to replace in any case of defect or failure in such machines, which would be randomised, to ensure that poll proceedings were not interrupted.
After checking its functional operations by a team of engineers from BEL in the presence of agents of candidates, these machines would be taken to Andipatti Taluk office and Periyakulam Revenue Divisional Office amidst tight security. Each and every machine concerning polling has its unique identity number and candidates and their agents could check whether such identity numbers were maintained. Further, she said adequate security arrangements would be made in the polling stations.
Earlier on May 7, candidates and their agents raised objections over arrival of 50 ballot units to Theni from Coimbatore and later they were explained about the reasons for its arrival.
