Teachers sans TET to get withheld salaries

The School Education Department decision to disburse the pending salaries assume significance as it served notice to these teachers recently after Madras High Court’s recent recommendation to dismiss them from the service since they have failed to complete TET before March 31, 2019.

The affected teachers were recruited in 2011 on the condition that they needed to clear TET within five years from the appointment date. However, about 1,500 teachers could not complete TET even after giving eight years’ time.

A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next on Tuesday that April month’s salary, which was withheld, were disbursed this month.

“They were clearly told that they should utilize the final and last chance to clear TET,” he said adding, “teachers were also instructed that they need to clear the upcoming TET, otherwise, their salary will be cut and they need to face further action as per the law.”

According to the official, the government has also set up training centres so that they can clear and proposed a ten-day TET training will be provided from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

K Suresh, a graduate teacher at AJS government-aided school in Adambakkam, said that he got the withheld salary this month. “We will do our level best to finish TET”, he added.
